Air Routes: Just in case you haven’t heard by now, Midway isn’t the only airport in Chicagoland to boast low-fare service. The locals are giddy about the fact JetBlue’s coming to town. January 4 is the launch date for nonstop O’Hare-New York JFK service. There will be five weekdaily roundtrips, all via A320s or smaller Embraer 190s. The latter are fitted with 2X2 seating, and boast ample headroom. In addition to the JFK service, JetBlue will also field a pair of daily flights from ORD to Long Beach beginning the same day, January 4…Southwest launches twice-daily Cleveland-Orlando service March 11.

Airports: Port Columbus International Airport (CMH) recently reopened its upgraded Red Shuttle Lot. The cost: $5 per day. Not bad at all, especially considering Columbus’s size. CMH just finished fitting the Red Shuttle Lot with emergency call stations at each of its 16 shuttle stops. Shuttle routes have been redesigned too, to make for faster, more efficient service to and from the airport terminal. Finally, the lot sports 400 more spaces than before. The total number of low-cost slots is now 2,782…So many books, so little time. Borders has opened a couple of bookstores at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Both are in the new McNamara Terminal.

757s never fade away, they just learn to fly international routes. Continental started the trend, now, Northwest is following suit, outfitting some seven-fives with fuel-saving winglets, and World Business Class seats up front. Then, Northwest points the airplanes east. May 7, NW launches nonstop Detroit-Brussels service with the craft; June 5 it’s 757 service to Düsseldorf from DTW
